BOOK TO MOVIE TRAILER PROJECT
Choose a book that you think would make a good movie based on the guidelines generated in class.
Prepare a book talk to "sell" this book to the class, giving reasons for your choice.
Type your book talk on our classroom blog. Students can comment on books and ask questions about recommendations.
Once everyone has had a chance to do this, voting will take place through a Google form survey.
The top 6 book choices will be the basis for movie trailer literature circles.
Students will be placed in groups to read their books according to a combination of student choice and teacher assignment.
The handouts below will assist groups in interpreting and organizing information from the text to be used in the trailer.
Handouts must be completed in detail and submitted for evaluation.

PLANNING HANDOUTS

ANALYZING MOVIE TRAILERS
We will spend some time analyzing various movie trailers to determine the common elements ie. humour, music to set mood or atmosphere, a series of short action clips, transitions, text (titles, credits, actors' names, release date, coming soon, etc.), quotes, introduction of main characters, important settings and plot points, etc.

The Apple iTunes Movie Trailer site and Tribute.ca have many samples.

FILMING
Assign a character or role to each student. Talk about props and costumes that will be needed. Bring these to school as soon as possible.
Students will take turns filming using video devices.
Filming will take place at school during class time. A variety of settings around the school may be used.
Some groups may choose to take some footage outside of class time for special settings.
If you have a tripod at home that we can use, bring it to school for the filming. Make sure it is labelled with your name.
